The Seven Heavenly Virtues

The seven heavenly virtues were designed to juxtapose the seven deadly sins. The heavenly virtues first appeared in a poem called "Psychomachia", written by Aurelius Clemens Prudentius during the middle ages. These virtues were used effectively by the early church to define expected goodness or morality.

For this project I used a variety of digital and traditional media to portray the seven heavenly virtues. I relied on symbolism and color to define these moral roles. This tabloid was then printed through Newspaperclub.com on 55 gsm paper.

For the cover I took a digital photo, hoping to capture earthly divinity through nature and heavenly sun rays. I chose to define and enhance colors to capture the desired tone.
For Chastity, I created a collage of religious and floral illustrations to capture the essence of the virtue with classic symbolism.
For Charity, I used a digital photo of symbolic gesture, which I then enhanced to set an uplifting tone.
For Patience, I used an image of a scanned object to portray this virtue, once again relying on symbolism as well as color enhancement.
In my final spread I chose to portray Humility through the simplicity of constructed object imagery.
